Answer
:
You don't actually need your username to access your account. However, you can find out what it is by using your e-mail address on our Password Reset page.

Simply follow these instructions:

1. Click/tap Password Reset on the menu at the top of the chat forum page (or click/tap the highlighted text to the left).

2. Type your Email address in the box. You may have to scroll down a bit to see the box.

3. Type the Verification code that's provided for you in the box (
but not with the first two or last two characters as instructed
).

4. Click the send button.

5. Follow the instructions provided in the e-mail that will have been sent to you.

That's it.

Remember that the password reminder page is really meant to reset a password when it's been forgotten. But that's okay since you will then have complete access to your user control panel (known on-line as the "User CP" at the top of the page). It will be at this time that you can choose a password of your choice.

Note
: If you use AOL or Yahoo, unfortunately but both AOL and Yahoo email servers do not deliver all email that is sent to you. This includes registration information that is automatically sent from forums. But there's no need to be overly concerned. You can simply contact Bill at gfwebmaster@greatfeet.com to get help, and he'll get you going again in a timely fashion.

Question: My e-mail address has changed, and I'm locked out of my profile because I don't remember my password. Unfortunately, I can't use the Password Reset page because I no longer have access to my old e-mail address. What do I do now?

: Just let me know what your old e-mail address is, and once I confirm that it's no longer a working address, I can input your new email address into your profile so that you can use it again.

: Yes, this is true, but you have the ability to opt out of this invasion of privacy if you so choose. Yahoo's tracking is surely harmless, and only meant to be a tool to better serve its users, but again, you have a choice to opt out if you want. For more details about this, read the following:

Yahoo has been using something called "Web Beacons" to track Yahoo Group users around the Net to see what you're doing and where you are going - similar to cookies. Yahoo is recording every website and every group you visit. Take a look at their updated privacy statement: http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy.

About half-way down this page for English in the United States, in the section on cookies, you will see a link that says web beacons. Click on the phrase web beacons: https://info.yahoo.com/privacy/us/yahoo/webbeacons/.

That will bring you to a paragraph entitled, "Outside the Yahoo Network." In this section you'll see a little "click here to opt out" link that will let you "opt-out" of their new method of snooping. Once you have clicked that link, you are exempted.

Notice the "Success" message on the top of the next page. Be careful, because on that page there is a "Cancel Opt-out" button that, if clicked, will *undo* the opt-out.


Note
: If you use different browsers as I do while surfing the Net, keep in mind that the option to "opt out" of Yahoo's tracking is specific with each browser. This would mean that if you have different people using your computer, and most probably using their own browser's settings based on their own preferences, you would need to opt out of each user's browser if you don't want Yahoo tracking all of the places you visit on the Net. This also applies even if you are the only person using your computer if, like me, you use both Internet Explorer and Netscape to surf the Net.

Question: Whenever I sign in as a member of the forum, and then try to post a message, I keep getting logged out, and I'm reverted back to being a guest. What's up with that?

Answer
: Chances are, you came to our chat forum in a frame (somebody else's window). For instance, if you click on a link to our forum while using Hotmail's e-mail service, Hotmail will direct you here, but will also keep you in their frame. Other companies do this same thing. But that's okay. Just click this link to break free into a new window.

Answer
: A big fat NO! We hate pop-ups and spyware. A great many of our sponsors, naturally, utilize pop-ups, so that's what's going on. Also, something called a "pop-under" is often activated from other sites, and then pops up as you close your browser.

Ironically, as of this date (Wednesday, October 22, 2003), the young men who authored the "pop-under" software just won a multi-million dollar judgement in court when a large company (X10 - see this article at MSNBC) tried to cheat them out of money. The three brothers were awarded $4.3 million - and stand to win more in punitive damages.

But there is good news if you hate pop-ups and spyware like I do. You can easily take action to make your life a lot easier. Both Netscape and Internet Explorer now give you the option to block pop-ups. Go for it! I did, and surfing on the Net is much more pleasant.

As for spyware, it's generally pretty harmless, but if you want to clean your computer of it, try using a free software program called Spybot -Search and Destroy by by PepiMK Software. Keep in mind that you will have to run this program often since spyware is unavoidable, and will re-appear on your computer shortly after you have cleaned it.

You can also use the IObit Malware Fighter 2 Free program. As it states, it's free. Wink

: Click the email icon above the smilie faces (...), and then place your e-mail address in between the opening and closing email code brackets as follows, but without any spaces in the e-mail coding:

When you type [ email ]
gfwebmaster@greatfeet.com
[ /email ] without the spaces, it will look like this: gfwebmaster@greatfeet.com.

If you want your name to appear instead of your e-mail address, but you still want this to be a clickable e-mail address, type [ email=
gfwebmaster@greatfeet.com
]
Webmaster Bill
[ /email ]
without the spaces, it will look like this: Webmaster Bill.

With the two examples above, remember to replace your own e-mail address and name (
shown in red
), and make sure that there are no spaces in the e-mail code.

Of course, for those of you who like to use the same e-mail address as the one that you want to list in your message, you can also make it readily available as an icon right below your name simply by editing your profile to allow it on-line. Like with my own name, the e-mail icon that you will see looks like this: ...

Lastly, don't be shy about experimenting with your posts. If a mistake is made, you can always fix it. Look for that link in the upper right hand corner above your message. Answer
: There isn't a way to colorize your subject line, but you can easily have color in the body of your message.
Like with this sentence, you can make the text in your message blue.
Just remember to put the beginning and closing brackets around the text that you are modifying.

To add color, look for "Add YABBC tags:" above and to the left of your text message box. You will see two rows of icons. At the far right of these icons, you will see a check box with the default of "black" already listed. Click the check mark. A menu of colors will appear. Choose the color that you would like your text to be. You will see the following, but without any spaces as is illustrated here:

[ color=Blue ]
Text in between these brackets will be blue
[ /color ]

[ color=Red ]
Text in between these brackets will be blue
[ /color ]

Note
: When you click a color of your choice, the code that is needed will most probably appear at the end of your message. Just cut and paste it where who want. You can also just type the color code in wherever you want it if it's easier for you to do this.

Reminder
: If you log in with your username, you can always edit or delete any posts that you make, so don't worry about making any mistakes. They can always be corrected by you.

: Yes! Even though your password is encrypted on our server, which means that it can't be retrieved on our end, a temporary password can be sent to you.

Note
: Our latest tests using the "Password Reset" option has shown that it may not be working properly. We're not sure why. No worries, though, as your password can be reset for you simply by requesting a reset in an email to Bill, the webmaster at his gfwebmaster@greatfeet.com address.

Important
: If you make a request for a new password, as we are unable to retrieve the password you chose since it's encrypted, please
do not let us know what your password choice is
. Instead, a temporary password will be given to you so that you can access your profile, which you can then change the temporary password to one of your choice.

Answer
: The most likely thing that happened was that you typed in your e-mail address incorrectly. That's a common error. Without a valid e-mail address, your password cannot be mailed to you. This is an automated process, so your information will be received by you as quickly as your e-mail server delivers your e-mail. In most cases, this is immediate, although with some e-mail servers it may take a few minutes, or even more if traffic on that e-mail server is heavy.

It's also possible that your e-mail account was full, and did not accept your confirmation and info.

Try signing up again, or click here to send me an e-mail so that I can help. Please include your username and e-mail address so that I can retrieve your information. Please
do not give me your chosen password
as that is meant to be private, and it is otherwise encrypted on our server. Thank you.

Hint
: There is a possibility that you somehow missed our confirmation e-mail, in which case you are in our system. If so, you might as well try to log in with the username and password you used to register.

If you're in the system, but you've lost or fogotten your password, then go to our Password Reset page to reactivate your membership. If that doesn't work, please read Reply #1 here in this topic for help.
