It is EXTREMELY rare to see anyone on the streets in their barefeet... I really enjoyed watching this barefoot 'street dancer' doing her very unusual dance routine right in front of one of the busiest train stations in Japan.

I especially like the one with the multi-colored toenails.  I saw this girl walking in the train station and was so impressed that I rushed after her to ask her if I could take a picture of her feet.  She was quite surprised, but happy to oblige."

Clearly, most visitors to our site just come in to check things out, and then they are out of here without any participation. In a way, though, at least from a webmaster's perspective, it's a blessing in disguise. I'm quite busy every day with a lot of e-mails that need to be addressed, so I barely have enough time to handle it all myself, which I prefer to do.

On the other hand, taking my own workload out of the picture, it would be great if more visitors took a few minutes out of their week to chat it up a bit with others.

Still, the glass IS half full, 'cause it's a certain reality that there have been, and are, plenty of people who have enjoyed a lot of our contributor's photos, and those we've produced on our own. To date, we've had close to over 50 million unique visitors hit our pages since 1997. Sure, a great many of these distinctly unique visitors have hit our pages on a regular basis, bouncing up these numbers because of repeat visits, but any way that you look at it, there are clearly a lot of people in the world who have a foot fetish. 8)

I pretty much only publish photos in our chat forum at the request of those who contribute, which is how this got started. If contributors want their photos to open up only in the forum, then it's appropriate that I accomodate their request. They have their reasons.

Years ago when SPAM wasn't so prevalent, you could get a hundred or so people viewing photos from a contributor, and expect to get about a dozen replies. However, especially since more and more contributors now SPAM those who contact them, experienced surfers often won't bother to e-mail contributors. The end result is that a contributor might only get an e-mail or two out of every few thousand who actually view their photos.

To date, you are the first person who has complained about this. However, I personally feel that you have a valid complaint. Still, I need to do what the contributors want, as most of these photos are theirs to share with us as they choose. If you'd like to share your photos with the rest of us, I'll make sure not to publish them in our forum.  

Fortunately for you, almost all photos that are submitted to us are published on our main page, so for the most part, you should be okay. As you know, for those photos that open up only in our forum, a note about this is made with the photos, so you have a choice to view these photos in the forum or not. That is one choice that you will always have available to you.

Dear Bick,

For privacy/security reasons I cannot reveal where in Asia I have been living.  However, it should be obvious to anyone who has been following this site for a while that I have spent a lot of time in various places in and around Asia, including a substantial amount of time in Japan.  Unfortunately, I have not spent very much time in Okinawa.  What little time I did spend there, however, was very enjoyable. 

Okinawa culture, though influenced heavily by Japan, is distinct.  The Ryuku islands used to be a separate kingdom from both Japan and China, but for most of its history was never completely independent from one or the other of its largest neighbors.  The people are laid back compared to the people in Tokyo or Osaka.  The food is different from standard Japanese faire, but it is very tasty. 

The beaches are nice and the water is clear (though someone devoid of sealife around the main population center in Naha).

But I guess you were asking about the women and the feet....  I think you will find the women to be quite lovely... and the sub-tropical climate is ideal for seeing women in open-toed sandals.

One thing you should be aware of, if you have not already been briefed about this: the relationship between the U.S. Military and the local Okinawan population is becoming increasingly strained.  You will find many warm and friendly people there, but you will also find people who believe the U.S. Military has worn out its welcome in Okinawa.  The local economy would probably collapse if the U.S. pulled out.  On the other hand, the bases there are a major source of noise pollution and environmental hazards.  But the main problem is that a small minority of our service men, for whatever reason, sometimes conduct themselves in a manner that is at best disrespectful of the local people and at worst criminal. In extreme cases, local women and children have even been raped or injured.  The abhorant behavior of these few people is damaging the reputation of all of our brave service men and women.

I encourage you to go there with an open mind and heart.  Treat the people there with dignity and respect and you will make new friends, learn a lot, and have a wonderful time.
